This is a very interesting time for the Cardinal, given the state of the national -- and certainly state of California -- economy.

Stanford long has been the leader nationally among athletic programs, but they are projecting that they will lose millions of dollars over the next several years. They're trying to figure how to cut travel expenses and possibly pare down staff, but they may have to trim the number of sports as well.
