RECRUITING SNIPPETS: RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC TO INCREASE

By Eric Bossi and Rob Harrington

Just when you were getting used to Kareem Rush....

Don't look now, but one of the top prospects in the sophomore class finally made his long-awaited debut as a high school basketball player on Tuesday night -- and his name is Brandon Rush.

Rush -- yes Kareem and JaRon’s younger brother -- finally took the court for Kansas City (MO) Westport last night after a series of grade and transfer issues had kept him sidelined for the first year and a half of his high school career.

And the 6-6 WF didn’t disappoint, scoring 18 points on a series of breathtaking drives to the cup in relatively limited action. Rush also grabbed several rebounds and blocked a handful of shots, but was most impressive handling the ball in the open court and making assaults at the rim from high above court level.

As expected, his debut also was a bit rocky at times, but regardless, it was an impressive first outing to build upon and certainly didn’t hurt his reputation as one of the elite prospects in the Class of 2004.

PLAYING AGAINST RUCKER NO WALK TO THE PARK

We earlier profiled top junior wing forward Omar Wilkes from Los Angeles (CA) Loyola, but another noteworthy junior also plays for that squad.

Chris Rucker, a 6-6, 200-pound BF, is a blue-collar insider who is described by Loyola coach Jim Williamson as having the "strongest hands I've ever seen." He's very solid and efficient inside (65 percent field goals) and plays tough post defense.

Thus far, Rucker is hearing from schools in the West Coast Conference and Ivy League. Chris' Ivy interest is attributable to a stellar 4.0 GPA.
