UPDATED TOP 25 AAU POLL

By Jeff Goodman
JGood67213@aol.com
April 24, 2003

We're taking a crack at the first-ever, comprehensive Top 25 AAU Poll ‚ and it's far from an easy task. This week's updated poll has some monster changes. If you have complaints, suggestions or corrections e-mail Jeff Goodman at JGood67213@aol.com ‚ but remember to take it easy on us, because this really is a mammoth undertaking. Enjoy!

1. Riverside Church (New York, N.Y.) ‚ (9-1) *13

Results: Won Boo Williams Gold Division after St. Louis Eagles forfeited the title game because of a flight conflict; Beat BABC, 68-63, in the semifinals; Defeated Illinois Warriors, 55-54, in the quarterfinals; Beat Team Florida, 83-65; Defeated Houston Hoops, 64-42; Pounded Georgia Elite, 98-60; Lost to Tim Thomas Playaz in the Spring Fling.

Coach: Kenny Pretlow/Hakiem Yahmadi
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: PG A.J. Price (6-2, 165, SR, #12)

Starters: C Derrick Caracter (6-9, 270, SOPH, #32); SG Keith Benjamin (6-2, SR, #11); BF Tyrell Biggs (6-6, 270, JR, #33); PF Arturo Dubois (6-6, 230, SR, #21)

Others: WF Dexter Gray (6-5, SR, #42); PG Desean Gist (6-2, SR, #10); F Shanty Robinson (6-5, SR, #44); WG-WF Jason Holmes (6-4, SR, #23); PG Brett Loscalzo (6-0, SR, #25); G Willis Kettrell (6-3, SR, #31); G Johnathan Smith (6-2, JR, #22)

Notes: A.J. Price entered Boo Williams somewhat underrated, but he left with a rep as one of the elite guards in the class. Price took home tourney MVP honors as Riverside Church used its combination of size and speed to win all five games. Price averaged 19.2 points per game and Arturo Dubois came up big with 17 in the semifinal win and 20 points and 12 boards against the Houston Hoops. Keith Benjamin added 22 in the victory over Team Florida and 14 against BABC. Desean Gist did a solid job running the club and shutting down the opposition's top offensive guard all tournament. Riverside's lone setback came against the Tim Thomas Playaz in the Spring Fling.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

2. St. Louis Eagles (St. Louis, Mo.) ‚ (4-1) *5

Results: Lost the Boo Williams Gold Division after forfeiting in the title game against Riverside Church because of having to leave to catch a flight; Beat Team Texas, 56-46, in the semifinals; Defeated the Gauchos, 72-56, in the quarterfinals; Beat All-Ohio, 80-67; Lost to D.C. Blue Devils, 59-57; Defeated Tennessee Travelers, 62-56.

Coach: Eric Long
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: BF Kalen Grimes (6-8, 255, SR, #32)

Starters: BF Matt Shaw (6-7, 220, SR, #33); WF/WG Tommy Liddell (6-5, 180, SR, #22); WG Xavier Price (6-3, 180, SR, #11); PG Monroe Douglass Jr. (5-11, 160, SR, #1)

Others: WG/WF Terry Evans (6-4, 185, SR, #12); F Brandon Rush (6-7, JR, #44, #25) BF/C Drew Richards (6-9, 215, SR, #25); PG/WG Aaron Jackson (6-3, 170, SR, #21); BF Tyler Hansborough (6-8, 210, JR), #42; WG Cameron Murkey (6-3, 190, SR, #5); PG Tommie House (5-10, 170, SR, #3)

Notes: The Eagles' only setback on the court at Boo came to the D.C. Blue Devils. They advanced to the title game, but couldn't play Riverside Church because they had to catch a flight and leave early. Liddell scored 20 and Brandon Rush, who won't play full-time with Long's crew but will travel with them this weekend and in July, added 16 against the Gauchos and had 10 in the win over Team Texas. Hansborough, just a rising junior, showed he's a big-time player and finished with 10 against Team Texas.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

3. Sports Academy (Baton Rouge, La.) ‚ (7-1) *NR

Results: Beat Richmond Squires, 63-54, to win the Texas Classic title; Defeated Juice All-Stars, 59-49, in the semifinals; Defeated Arkansas Hawks; Beat Tim Thomas Playaz, 60-57; Defeated Panthers Select; Beat Pump 'N Run, 55-53; Lost to Houston Select; Beat Team Detroit.

Coach: Collis Temple
Affiliation: Independent
Top Dog: BF Glen Davis (6-8, 310, SR, #00)

Starters: WF Tasmin Mitchell (6-7, JR, #55); G-F Early Doucet (6-3, SR, #23); G Garrett Temple (6-6, 170, SR, #41); G Curtis West (6-0, SR, #22)

Others: WG Anthony Kimble (6-2, SR, #15); G Tony Johnson (6-0, SR, #12); G Anwar Johnson (6-3, SR, #10); PG Chris Davis (5-7, SR, #11); WG-WF Larry Anderson (6-3, SR, #44); F Sean Bridgewater (6-4, SR, #4)

Notes: Glen "Big Baby" Davis, a mammoth big forward who may opt to go the D-1 football route, was unstoppable with 24 points and 11 boards in the title game and 18 points and 12 rebounds in the semifinal win over Sebastian Telfair's Juice All-Star squad. Tasmin Mitchell added 10 points and 8 boards in the title game and finished with 11 against Juice.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

4. D.C. Blue Devils (Adelphi, Md.) ‚ (4-1) *1

Results: Won the Boo Williams Silver Division after Team Florida forfeited to catch their flight; Beat Georgia Stars, 66-56, in the semifinals; Defeated Arkansas Wings, 54-40, in the quarterfinals; Beat Tennessee Travelers, 79-53; Edged St. Louis Eagles, 59-57; Lost to All-Ohio, 71-70.

Notes: The Blue Devils, our preseason No. 1 team in the land, let us down when they lost their first game at Boo Williams by one point to All-Ohio. However, Jackson rallied the troops and ran off four straight wins before claiming the Silver division crown due to a forfeit. Jackson was without Hibbert and Nwankwo for the entire weekend and Price wasn't around for the loss to All-Ohio because of a conflict with the ACT.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

5. Tim Thomas Playaz (Paterson, N.J.) ‚ (23-1) *10

Results: Lost to Sports Academy, 60-57, in the playoffs at the Texas Classic; Beat New Jersey Boys Club, 75-52, to win the Gold Division at the Jam Fest (R.I.); Beat Gauchos, 65-63, to win the Spring Fling (own tournament); Defeated Bronx Ravens, 76-50, in the semifinals; Defeated Riverside Church in the quarterfinals.

Notes: McClure is out for about a month with mono, but the Playaz picked up the 7-foot Bell and also Martin, who averaged 18 points per game in Houston. Smith had games of 25 and 27 in pool play. Singletary scored 22 points and Smith added 14 in the title game of the Jam Fest.

Next Tourney: Charlie Weber (D.C.)

6. Team Texas (Rowlett, Texas) ‚ (7-2) *9

Results: Won the Tops 'N Texas tournament (beat Houston Westside All-Stars in title game); Lost to St. Louis Eagles, 56-46, in the Boo Williams Gold Division semifinals; Beat Jackson Tigers, 61-56, in the quarterfinals; Lost to Louisiana Select, 65-62; Beat California Team Select, 59-53; Defeated Georgia Stars, 55-48.

Coach: Darryl Horton/Wes Grandstaff
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: BF-C LeMarcus Aldridge (6-11, 220, SR, #11)

Starters: PG Jason Horton (6-1, 170, SR, #12); WF Rell Porter (6-7, 187, SR, #33); BF Kevin Langford (6-8, 205, SR, #31); WG Collin Dennis (6-3, SR, #23)

Notes: Everyone knew Aldridge was one of the top players in the country, but he made sure there were no doubts with his performance at Boo Williams. The 6-11 big man had 20 points and 15 rebounds against the Georgia Stars and scored 20 in the semifinal loss to the Eagles. Horton finished with 18 points and 7 assists against the Georgia Stars and backcourt mate Dennis displayed his shooting ability with 21 in the win over California Team Select. Horton had 25 points in the win over the Westside All-Stars as Team Texas captured the Tops ėN Texas crown.

Coach: Larry Stamps
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: C Al Jefferson (6-8, 270, SR, #25)

Starters: BF Charles Rhodes (6-8, 220, SR, #44); PG Charlie White (5-11, SR, #1); SG Bobby Clark (6-5, 180, SR, #22); WF Charles Thomas (6-7, 210, SR, #33)

Others: BF Mekel Marshall (6-8, 240, SR, #42); WG-WF Kevin McCoy (6-4, SR, #21); PG Bryant Spiller (6-2, SR, #11); G Marves Fairley (6-2, SR, #31); G Michael Hoover (6-2, SR, #23)

Notes: Jefferson showed why he is arguably the top player in the 2004 class with 36 points and 12 boards against the Tallahassee Wildcats. He had 22 points and 6 rebounds in the loss to Team Texas and LeMarcus Aldridge while Thomas added 17 points and 10 boards. Clark finished with 17 against Tallahassee. White suffered a severe groin injury in the loss to Team Texas, but it expected to be ready for the next tournament, which is this weekend when the Tigers host the Tiger Jam. Notes: It seems like a different player steps up each game. Keith Brumbaugh had 23 against Georgia Elite, Jason Rich scored 30 in the win over the Ravens and Sasha Kaun added 21 points and 7 boards. The Wildcats may get Braxton Williams back from a stress fracture in his foot this weekend.

Notes: Squires' team doesn't have a whole lot of size, but they can flat-out shoot the ball. Joe Posey was on fire in the Lone Star state with 18 ‚ on six 3-pointers ‚ in the title game. Posey also had 21 against the Tallahassee Wildcats. Cameron Stanley sat out the tournament with a shoulder injury and Glen Dandridge was forced to leave the championship game with an ankle injury.

Gray (5-8, SR, #11) Notes: Livingston may the big-time name on the team, but it was the undersized Gray who came up huge with 26 points in the title game against Raleigh's Finest. Livingston added 18 and Lee chipped in with 13. Cerasoli and Raboin also played major roles for Ft. Sooy.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Houston)

11. Arkansas Hawks (Ark.) ‚ (4-1) *NR

Results: Lost to Sports Academy in the quarterfinals in the Texas Challenge; Beat Southeast Pump 'N Run; Defeated Mobley Philly Studs; Defeated Southside All-Stars (Texas); Beat Rotary Select.

Notes: Monk and Winston are both names that have hit the national circuit, but it was Smith who came up big last weekend as a point forward who caused matchup problems. Smith had 18 vs. Southeast Pump 'N Run while Monk added 17 and Winston finished with 15 points and 11 boards.

Next Tourney: Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions (N.C.)

Top Dog: F Shaun Pruitt (6-8, 215, SR, #33)

Starters: BF Ollie Bailey (6-7, 225, SR, #40); G Jaeh Thomas (6-2, 185, SR, #34); WG-WF Frank Claire (6-6, SR, #22); F Gordon Watt (6-6, SR, #20)

Others: WF Kyle Carrabine (6-7, SR, #23); WG Steve Holdren (6-4, SR, #2); PG Jaryd Lloyd (5-10, SR, #15); WG-WF Vince Humphrey (6-6, SR, #32); WF Chris Cornelius (6-7, SR, #21); F Sean Kirkendoll (6-6, SR, #24); PG Aaron Anderson (6-0, SR, #3); PG Robin Bester (5-11, PG); PG Matt Cunningham (6-0, SR, #13)

Strength: Frontline; Depth
Weakness: Pruitt's health

Notes: Pruitt and Bailey may up one of the top forward duos in the nation and will complement one another especially well. Bailey is all power, while Pruitt, who has had a pair of injuries that have limited his play in the last two years, brings plenty of finesse to the table. Thomas is an ABCD veteran who can play either backcourt spot while Claire and Watt give the team scoring punch from the wings.

Opening Tourney: Kingwood (Houston)

13. Athletes First (Oklahoma City, Okl.) ‚ (0-0) *25

Coach: Gary Vick
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: BF Darnell Jackson (6-8, 235, SR, #34)

Others: F Matt Cannady (6-8, 225, SR); WF Taylor Griffen (6-5, JR, #25); BF Drew Haymaker (6-8, 235, SOPH, #31); F Shantell Norman (6-10, SOPH); F Keith Clark (SOPH, #22); Kyle Green (#3); Quincy Williams (#21); Gerrell Thomas (#23); Paulas Ritter (#44)

Strength: Perimeter threats
Weakness: Depth

Notes: Jackson is a monster inside and has drawn the attention of numerous high-major schools, including Kansas and Oklahoma. Stewart is a consummate point guard, but is coming back from a broken foot and may not be at 100 percent for the early part of the summer. Chaney barely played last year because of a shoulder injury ‚ he's a good athlete who has also been pursued by the locals (OU and OSU) for football. Haymaker is one of the top rising sophomores in the nation and should see some time on the under-17 squad.

Corcoran had 17 and point guard Chris Vetrano added 13 in the semifinal setback to Riverside Church. The starting point guard, Justin Dick, didn't make the trip to Boo.

Notes: Cincinnati-bound point guard Jamar Butler averaged 18 points and 6 assists per game at the Texas Classic while Brandon Ivery added 14.4 points and 9 boards per contest. Sykes chipped in 13.5 ppg and Terwilliger did a little bit of everything, with 13 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. Duncan was without Ben Miller (dislocated shoulder) and Danny Morrissey, who remained in Florida at school.

Next Tourney: Mustang Classic (Lansing, Mich.)

Notes: Channing Toney, Andrew's son, and Wynton Witherspoon are both averaging more than 20 points per game. Parker didn't have Toney for the loss to the D.C. Blue Devils after a hip flexor. Lamb has been solid and unselfish at the point.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas); AAU State Tournament (May 2-5)

Results: Lost to Boo Williams, 74-56, in the Boo Williams Silver Division quarterfinals; Beat YOMCA, 62-61; Defeated the Albany City Rocks, 59-53; Lost to BABC, 68-67.

Notes: Shawne Williams scored 21 points and Andre Allen added 15 against the Albany City Rocks, but YOMCA was without ultra-athletic off-guard Charles Hampton for the tournament. Easterwood's club won two of its three games in pool play, but didn't advance to the playoffs because of a tiebreaker. The 17s actually got knocked off by the YOMCA under-15 squad in the AAU sub-state championship. Freshman Pierre Nikes (6-8) scored 33 against the under-17 team, which was led by Williams' 14 points.

Coach: Hal Pastner/Byron Gibson
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: G Daniel Gibson (6-3, 185, SR, #22)

Starters: WF Jawaan McClellan (6-6, SR, #44); WG/WF Matt Wheaton (6-6, SR, #25); G Rodney Foster (6-0, SR, #10); F Mike Nichols (6-6, SR, #21); C Kellen Hurd (6-7, SR, #42)

McClellan had 20 points and four trifectas in the title game against the Utah Bruins Gold in Vegas.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

20. Southeast Pump 'N Run (Huntsville, Alabama) ‚ (3-1) *11

Results: Lost to Arkansas Hawks in the first round of the Texas Classic playoffs; Beat IEBP; Defeated Louisiana Panthers; Beat Playerz (Ind.).

Coach: Mark Komara/Ronnie Stapler
Affiliation: Adidas
Top Dog: BF Mike Williams (6-8, 220, SR, #40)

Starters: G Glenn Miles (6-5, 190, SR, #1); WF Tyler Smith (6-6, 200, JR, #34); Cyrus McGowen (6-11, 235, JR, #45); PG Jonathan Wallace (6-2, 175, SR, #10)

Others: SG Shay Shannon (6-3, 185, SR, #44); SG Casey Stafford (6-3, 170, SR, #30); PG Eric Howard (6-0, 160, SR, #35); SG Jarvis Hill (6-2, JR, #20); BF Joey Cameron (6-9, 225, SOPH, #32)

Notes: Mike Williams had a big tournament as Komara's crew won all three pool play games, but the loss of Glenn Miles to an ankle injury hurt Pump 'N run against the Arkansas Hawks, who were smoking from long range. Look for Cameron to return from a knee injury at the Bob Gibbons tournament, which should make things easier for Williams inside.

Next Tourney: Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions (N.C.)

21. South Carolina Ravens (Columbia, S.C.) ‚ (6-3) *22

Results: Lost to Team Florida, 80-65, in the Boo Williams Silver Division quarterfinals; Lost to Illinois Warriors, 65-62; Beat Kentucky Hoopsters, 71-67; Defeated Alabama Lasers, 58-56; Beat N.C. Gaters, 99-75, to win the state super-regional; Lost to Georgia Warriors in earlier round of super-regional.

Coach: Dion Bethea
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: BF ReSean Dickey (6-9, 250, SR, #4)

Starters: WG Zam Frederick (6-1, 190, SR, #20); G Ronald White (6-3, 180, SR, #23); BF Philip Merling (6-6, SR, #44); WF Josh Dollard (6-7, JR, #42)

Notes: Dickey scored 21 points and grabbed 7 boards in the win over the Alabama Lasers. Irby played well at the point during the tournament. Downey injured his ankle and didn't play for most of the tourney.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

22. S.C. All-Stars (Los Angeles, Calif.) ‚ (4-1) *8

Results: Lost to Utah Bruins in the quarterfinals of the Las Vegas Easter Classic; Beat Red Shield Hawks (Colo.); Defeated Alta (Utah), 59-39; Beat Copper State White, 80-62; Defeated San Diego All-Stars, 75-57.

Coach: Pat Barrett/Reggie Theus
Affiliation: Reebok
Top Dog: SG Aaron Afflalo (6-4, 190, SR, #4)

Starters: C David Burgess (6-10, 250, SR, #44); PG Vincent Oliver (6-2, SR, #1); WF Marcel Jones (6-7, 205, SR, #33)

Others: BF Chris Henry (6-8, 210, SR, #32); WG Marcus Johnson (6-4, JR, #22); PG Marcus Everett (6-1, SR, #3); F Taylor King (6-5, FR); F Dorrell Wright (6-7, SR)

Notes: The team lost its coach, Reggie Theus, when he was called into action with TNT to broadcast the Spurs-Suns playoff series. Then it lost its starting backcourt, when Afllalo sat out the last three games with a sprained ankle and Oliver had three staples put in his head after being elbowed in the playoffs. Jones had 28 against the Red Shield Hawks and Afflalo had 21 against Alta in the first game before having to leave with the ankle injury.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

23. Juice All-Stars (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ‚ (5-1) *NR

Results: Lost to Sports Academy, 59-49, in the semifinals of the Texas Classic; Beat Long Island Panthers in the quarterfinals; Defeated New York Ravens; Beat Atlanta Celtics; Beat World Wide Renegades; Defeated Michigan Mustangs

Coach: Dwayne Morton
Affiliation: Adidas
Top Dog: PG Sebastian Telfair (6-0, 170, SR, #31)

Starters: G Ramel Bradley (6-2, 175, SR, #33); G Kojo Mensah (6-1, 175, SR, #23); F James Barrett (6-5, SR, #10); BF Sean James (6-9, SR, #12)

Others: WG Nyan Boateng (6-3, JR, #15); G Eugene Lawrence (6-0, SR); G-WF Saquaine Stone (6-4, JR); WF Nickolas Harrington (6-6, SR, #14); WG Jamel White (6-2, SR)

Notes: Obviously, this backcourt can hang with anyone ‚ and it did in Houston. Telfair and Bradley combined for more than 50 against the Panthers, but it was James who held his own against the Atlanta Celtics formidable front line. Look for Vernon Goodrich, a Brooklyn native who will be playing with the World Wide Renegades, to play with the All-Stars at a few tournaments. Telfair is still among the best ‚ if not the top ‚ point guard in the class while Bradley is underrated and has flourished since attending IMG in Florida. The key is whether Morton can get enough from his guys up front.

Next Tourney: Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions (N.C.)

24. NC Gaters (Greensboro, N.C.) ‚ *17

Results: Lost to S.C. Ravens, 99-75, in the state super-regional; Defeated Beach Ball Select (S.C.) in the title game to win the Beach Blast.

Coach: Steve Shelton
Affiliation: Reebok
Top Dog: C-BF Cedric Simmons (6-9, 215, SR, #44)

Starters: WF James Mays (6-8, 195, SR, #4); G JamesOn Curry (6-2, 175, SR, #24); PG Kenny Hunt (5-11, 185, SR, #1); WF-WG Jason Thompson (6-5, 190, SR, #21)

Others: BF-C Sam Faulk (6-8, 230, SR, #00); F Travoris Watts (6-7, 200, SR, #25); WF Larry Smith (6-6, 180, SR, #40); WG Simon Harris (6-4, 210, SR, #32); G Mack Montgomery (6-3, 190, SR, #11); G Takayo Siddle (5-10, 170, SR, #22); PG Marcus Hairston (5-10, 180, SR, #14); PG JaRon Goodson (5-8, 160, SR, #10)

Notes: Simmons has already committed to N.C. State and he put up 18 points and six blocks against Beach Ball. Curry is slated to attend North Carolina. Mays is a highly touted wing from Garner High, but the strength of this club is its depth and athleticism.

Next Tournament: AAU state tournament this weekend; May 9-11 Southern Invitational (Charlottesville, Va.);

25. Alabama Lasers (Huntsville, Ala.) ‚ (1-2) *6

Results: Beat Kentucky Hoopsters, 65-51; Lost to Illinois Warriors, 53-51; Lost to S.C. Ravens, 58-56.

Coach: Wig Pearson/Ronnie Flakes
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: BF/C D.J. White (6-9, 225, SR, #3)

Starters: F Richard Hendrix (6-8, JR, #33); PG Tank Beavers (6-1, SR, #23); G Ron Steele (6-2, SR, #21); G Courtney Beasley (6-3, SR, #32)

Others: C Yamene Coleman (6-10, 220, JR, #44); F Demarre Carroll (6-6, SR, #22); G Antonio Odoms (6-3, SR, #25); F Victor "Lawrence" Fryer (6-6, SR, #31); PG Marcus Jones (5-10, SR, #5); F Wesley Jones (6-7, SR, #42); F Rafael Brown (6-7, SR, #11); BF/C Charlie Parker (6-8, SR, #12); PG Ryan Mashburn (6-0, SR); PG Keagan Bell (5-11, FR, #1); F Thomas Morris (6-6, SR, #12)

Notes: The Lasers were without their newest addition, Steele, for Boo Williams and his absence was apparent. White started the tournament slow and had just 4 points in the loss to the Ravens, but he had 17 points in the win over Kentucky and Hendrix added 16. Beavers scored 15 and hit four trifectas in the opening game of the tournament.

Next Tourney: Memorial Day Classic (Bloomington, Ind.)

Dropped Out:

No. 2 Atlanta Celtics (Atlanta, Ga.) ‚ (5-3)

Results: Lost to Cleveland Basketball Club in the playoffs at the Texas Classic; Beat World Wide Renegades; Lost to Juice All-Stars; Beat Michigan Mustangs; Lost to Pepsi Challenge in the semifinals of the Riverfest Tournament (Columbus, Ga.)

Coach: Wallace Prather
Affiliation: Adidas
Top Dog: F Dwight Howard (6-10, 235, SR, #45 or #12)

Starters: WF Josh Smith (6-9, 205, SR, #42); C Randolph Morris (6-11, 235, SR, #21); SG Dwayne Day (6-5, 185, SR); PG Montavious Waters (6-3, SR)

Others: G Jarvis Crittendon (6-4, SOPH); BF Ousmane Konate (6-8, 240, SR); F Michael Walker (6-7, 185, SR); BF Warren McClendon (6-6, 250, SR); WG Quay Marbury (6-5, SR); F Desmond Williams (6-6, SR); G Eddie Dawson (6-1, SR)

Notes: Despite the most talented frontline in the country, the Celtics showed they can be beaten. Chemistry will be an issue ‚ as will guard play. The three big boys all played well, but the group wasn't in tip-top shape to handle five games in one day and it showed. Konate didn't make the trip to Texas and will help when he joins the team. Day broke his toe

Next Tourney: Charlie Weber (D.C.)

No. 4 Michigan Hurricanes (Flint, Mich.) ‚ (2-3)

Results: Beat Texas Blue Chips at Texas Classic; Lost to Cleveland Basketball Club.

Coach: Chris Grier
Affiliation: Adidas
Top Dog: WF Roy Bright (6-6, 200, SR, #32)

Starters: BF Marquise Gray (6-7, 200, SR, #33); WG James Hardy (6-5, 180, SR); PG Churchill Odia (6-5, 170, SR, #24); C Goran Sutton (6-10, SR, #50)

Others: WF Miguel Hall (6-3, SR, #8); SG Brian Moten (6-4, SR, #11); Tunji Soroye (6-10, 240, SR, #44); WF Derrick Nelson (6-5, SR, #30); WG Cortney Jennings (6-3, SR, #10); PG Solomom Israel (6-2, SR, #5) Notes: Chemistry was the major issue since few of these guys had played together prior to the Texas Classic. Bright put up 27 against the Texas Blue Chips, but Hardy's jumper wasn't falling for much of the tournament and Gray didn't make the trip because of a death in the family.

Next Tourney: May 2-4 Adidas Hoop Challenge (Cleveland)

No. 7 Rotary Select (Seattle, Wash.) ‚ (2-3)

Results: Lost to Texas Blue Chips in the consolation bracket of the Texas Classic; Beat World Wide Renegades; Beat Southside All-Stars; Lost to Cuttino Mobley Philly Studs; Lost to Arkansas Hawks.

Coach: Adam Sedlik
Affiliation: Adidas
Top Dog: F Marvin Williams (6-8, 220, SR, #21)

Starters: PG Lyndale Burleson (6-2, 175, SR, #1); BF Josh Heytvelt (6-8, 205, SR, #32); WG Rodney Stuckey (6-4, SR); WF-WG Marcus Williams (6-6, JR, #20)

Others: F Andrew Strait (6-8, SR); WF John Rogers (6-5, SR, #34); PG Jordan Sutton (5-10, JR, #5); G Terrence Williams (6-5, JR, #3)

Notes: Things didn't start out well for Rotary as they dropped their first two games to the Arkansas Hawks and the Mobley Philly Studs in Texas. Marvin and Marcus Williams led them to a pair of wins in the next two games before bowing out against the Texas Blue Chips.

Next Tourney: FinalScoreTV.com (Seattle)

No. 12 Tallahassee Wildcats (Tallahassee, Fla.) ‚ (1-3)

Results: Lost to Georgia Stars, 81-71, in the Boo Williams Silver Division quarterfinals; Lost to Jackson Tigers, 76-64; Lost to New Jersey All-Stars, 65-63; Beat Charlotte Royals, 62-55.

Coach: John Adkins
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: G Darius Washington (6-1, 165, SR, #12)

Starters: PG Taurean Green (6-0, 165, SR, #5); WF Cornelius Ingram (6-5, 200, SR, #1); PG Alex Gordon (6-0, 160, SR, #3); C Jason Bennett (7-1, SOPH, #25); Brian Hoff (#25); Tom Hammond (#33); F Sammy Hernandez (6-6, JR, #21)

Others: F Michael Lee (6-7, SR); G Jon Mason (6-3, SR, #22); F Ken Mitchell (6-7, SR, #32)

Notes: Darius Washington sat out the first game at Boo Williams with a knee injury and Cornelius Ingram missed the entire tourney. Washington returned and scored 22 points against the Jackson Tigers, but it wasn't enough. Alex Gordon added 17 and Taurean Green chipped in 12 in the loss to the Tigers.

Next Tourney: Coast to Coast (May 9-11)

No. 19 Albany City Rocks (Albany, N.Y.) ‚ (0-3)

Results: Lost to BABC, 58-52; Lost to the Family, 59-53; Lost to YOMCA, 60-55, in overtime.

Starters: PG Tiki Mayben (6-3, 155, JR, #32); PG Greg Paulus (6-2, 175, JR, #12); WF Will Daniels (6-6, SR, #22); BF Sam Dolan (6-8, SR, #44)

Others: PG Taquan Evans (6-3, SR, #11); WF Josh Pelletier (6-5, SR, #33); BF Brian Monahan (6-6, SR, #42); WG Artavius Fisher (6-1, SR, #3); WG Antwon White (6-3, SR); WF Jason James (6-4, SR, #10); WG Steve Dagostino (6-1, SR, #5)

Notes: The Rocks had a rough go of it in Virginia, losing all three of their games at Boo Williams. Dayshawn Wright had 14 and Greg Paulus, one of the top point guards in the Class of 2005, added 13. Hart and Marino were without wing Will Daniels for the tournament.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

No. 20 Georgia Elite (Atlanta, Ga.) ‚ (7-3)

Results: Lost to Houston Hoops, 81-77, at Boo Williams; Lost to Team Florida, 73-57; Lost to Riverside Church, 98-60; Beat World Wide Renegades to win the Southern Shootout (Ga.)

Coach: Linzy Davis
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: BF-C Mohamed Tangara (6-10, 230, SR, #44)

Starters: PG Tramell Wooten (6-3, SR, #10); BF Richard Dorsey (6-9, 245, SR, #42); WF Robert Dozier (6-9, 180, SR, #25); WG Archie Miaway (6-4, SR, #21)

Others: F Daniel Northern (6-9, 185, SR, #32); G Tay Barber (5-11, JR, #1); WG Martel Humphrey (6-3, JR, #5); F Jay Brown (6-7, JR, #23); F Gamble Dickerson (6-3, JR, #31)

Notes: It was all downhill for Georgia Elite at Boo Williams. Davis' team suffered a bad loss to Riverside Church right out of the gates and went home after a disappointing setback to a Houston Hoops squad playing without the services of its top player, Daniel Gibson. Elite will welcome Davis back after he was unable to coach the team at Boo Williams. Mohamed and Dorsey didn't play the first game of the tournament against Riverside Church.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

No. 21 Pump 'N Run (Northridge, Calif.) ‚ (5-2)

Results: Won the consolation bracket at Texas Classic after failing to advance in pool play.

Others: Kashif Watson (6-0, JR); WF Nick Young (6-6, SR); C Craig Austin (6-9, SR)
Strength: Guard play
Weakness: Size

Notes: The Pumps were led by Bryce Taylor and Jordan Farmar out in Texas last weekend, but they suffered a pair of setbacks in pool play. Lorenzo Mata is a big man to watch as he emerged in the Lone Star State.

Next Tourney: Hosted Vegas Classic (Nev.)

No. 24 New Jersey All-Stars (Burlington, N.J.) ‚ (1-2)

Results: Lost to Charlotte Royals, 72-71, at Boo Williams; Beat Tallahassee Wildcats, 65-63; Lost to Jackson Tigers, 67-61.
Coach: Frank Berg
Affiliation: Nike
Top Dog: F Rob Kurz (6-8, 205, SR, #33)

Starters: C DeSean White (6-7, 215, SR, #42); PG Cedric Jackson (6-1, 185, SR, #11); WG Paul Gouse (5-11, 185, JR, #1); WF Chris Burns (6-6, SR, #23)

Strength: Perimeter Play
Weakness: True Center

Notes: Kurz is one of the top shooters in the nation. He went for 23 in a buzzer-beating loss to the Charlotte Royals and had 15 in the win over Tallahassee in Boo Williams tournament pool-play action.

Next Tourney: Kingwood (Texas)

ON THE CUSP

Georgia Warriors (Atlanta, Ga.) ‚ (5-2) *NR

Results: Beat Georgia Elite, 65-56, in the state AAU tournament; Defeated S.C. Ravens at the AAU super-regional; Beat Atlanta Celtics "B" team; Lost to Atlanta All-Stars; Lost to Carolina Hoopstars

Coach: William LoPresti
Affiliation: Reebok
Top Dog: BF Joshua Edwards (6-5, SR, #52)

Starters: PG Bo Mason (6-0, SR, #3); G Anthony Fisher (6-2, SR, #2); F Jarvis Bronner (6-3, SR, #5); F Tyler Murray (6-3, SR, #22)

Others: G Jon Brock (6-1, SR, #12); WG Bryant Anderson (6-4, SR); WG Drew Biggs (6-4, SR); PG Bakari Edwards (5-11, SR); F Kapel Josephs (6-2, SR); F Diontay Perkinson (6-6, SR); WG Jordan Rackie (6-4, SR)

Notes: This is a team that doesn't have much of a national rep and doesn't boast a lot of size, but they keep on knocking off some of the big boys in Georgia. Edwards is an athlete who had 32 points and 17 boards in a head-to-head matchup with Randolph Morris in high school and Mason is a pure floor leader. Fisher, who has grown about five inches in the past year and a half, averaged 27 points and 6 assists at the state AAU championships and also put up 34 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists against the S.C. Ravens a couple weeks ago.
