GRANT PICKS N.C. STATEBy Rob Harrington
N.C. State coach Herb Sendek has once again tapped New York City for a prime recruit, adding Gavin Grant to a mix that already includes star junior Julius Hodge. Grant, a 6-6 WF/WG from Bronx (NY) St. Raymonds, chose the Wolfpack over Pittsburgh, Villanova, Richmond and others. The slender wing didn't explode during the summer quite as much as some expected, but regardless he is a good wing athlete who has scoring tools from mid and long-range. At the ABCD Camp this past July, Grant showed a developing post game as well, something he'll be able to break out when guarded by shorter defenders in college, provided he packs up some extra muscle. N.C. State now has commitments from Grant and top-25 big man Cedric Simmons, and the Wolfpack also will have Georgetown transfer Tony Bethel eligible next season. They have one remaining scholarship for the Class of 2004.
