HOOSIERS GET ROTHBART

Indiana addressed its frontcourt, adding the services of 7-0 Sacramento (CA) Natomas center Robert Rothbart. Rothbart, who had narrowed his list of schools to Hoosiers and UCLA, is a senior who will be eligible to play for the Hoosiers during the upcoming season.

Widely regarded as a top-200 recruit, Rothbart is a good shooter who posted good numbers as a senior.

Here's what Prep Stars talent evaluator Brick Oettinger wrote about him in the fall Recruiter's Handbook:

"Because of his height he's an intriguing player, even though he's very slender at 195 pounds (note: he has added weight in the past several months). He's grown a couple of inches in the last year, is mobile and a good passer, and has developed into a fine face-the-basket jump shooter to 19 feet. Additionally, he's a very fine student. On the other hand, he seems to lack toughness as well as strength, though he does try hard on the boards at both ends, and he's no better than an average leaper. High-major/high-major minus prospect."

JUNIOR FORWARD PICKS EARLY

Lithuanian 6-8 BF Laurynas Mikalauskas pledged to Virginia. The St. George (VA) Blue Ridge product receiver an early offer from the Cavaliers and decided to snatch it up prior to the summer, choosing Pete Gillen's program over Virginia Tech, West Virginia and others.

Mikalauskas is a bull in the paint who doesn't have great athleticism but works extremely hard for post position and on the glass. He also has a college-ready frame that should enable him to bulk up and become one of the most bruising big guys on the block.

ELSEWHERE....

St. John's and new Red Storm coach Norm Roberts picked up athletic NJ WG Cedric Jackson. Jackson is a good, top-200 combo guard and very nice pickup during the depleted spring period. ...
