LESLIE , ECHENIQUE COMMIT

March 25, 2008

Top-50 NJ C Greg Echenique made his college commitment on Monday, choosing Rutgers over Miami, Duke, Maryland, Memphis, Penn and many others. The beefy junior insider is one of the most physically ready centers in the Class of 2009, and his toughness and competitive drive match his raw size.

Echenique teamed at St. Benedict's with elite senior big man Samardo Samuels, and while the native Venezuelan may not be as athletic or skilled as his older teammate, he's a true five-man and one of the most promising interior defenders in the junior class.

Rutgers also gained a pledge from Austin Johnson, a 6-8, 225-pound junior BF at Blairstown (NJ) Blair Academy. He averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds per game this season at Blair. Clearly, the Scarlet Knights are amassing serious talent under head coach and noted recruiter Fred Hill.

LESLIE CHOOSES DAWGS

Georgia's recent postseason run may not have been the decisive factor in GA WF Travis Leslie decision in favor of the Bulldogs, but the unsigned senior couldn't have been turned off by UGa's play down the stretch.

Leslie is, of course, one of the nation's best unsigned senior wings, and signed or unsigned he's among the most athletic. While his jumper and ball-handling need work for college, he'll bring a immediate physical presence to Georgia's lineup.
