COMMITMENT ROUNDUP

By PrepStars.com staff

September 15, 2008

The past few days have been huge for several major programs, evidenced by several key pledges delivered by both senior prospects and underclassmen. This pace likely will continue for several more weeks, heading into the fall signing period in November.

Duke likely was the school that benefited most, as the Blue Devils reached into the Class of 2010 and nabbed a pair of high-major talents. The biggest name is VA BF Josh Hairston, a likely McDonald's All-American who is at his best facing the basket.

Hairston also has broad shoulders and good athleticism, and thus he can be a solid rebounder and interior scorer as well, although he's clearly more comfortable with a little bit of range from the basket.

DC WG/PG Tyler Thornton also joined the Duke program, and although he is evolving into a more of a dedicated point, we actually have liked him more as a combo guard to this point in his career. Thornton is another very talented -- top-50, according to some -- prospect who enhanced his national ranking at major summer events.

Here are more pledges to note:

TX BF/WF Roger Franklin: Committed to Oklahoma State.

Comment: The Cowboys wrangled in this ferocious competitor and outstanding court leader, and Franklin will give OSU an immediate boost on and off the court. Franklin developed into a scouts' favorite over the past couple of years due to his vocal leadership style and hard work. He's small for the post at just 6-5, but he has become a good medium-range jump shooter and utilizes long arms to play taller than his height.

NY/CT WF Kevin Parrom: Committed to Xavier.

Comment: Always considered a likely XU recruit, Parrom pulled the trigger for the Musketeers and gives the program a top-100 talent from the Class of 2009. A tough and hard-working New York product, Parrom excels as a garbageman yet possesses scoring ability off the dribble -- and using his jump shot -- as well.

MORE DECISIONS

In addition to Franklin, OSU has scored with FL JC WF Brad Reese, a solid scorer in the juco ranks. ... Providence connected with GA BF Kadeem Batts. ... FL WG Ramon Galloway pledged to South Carolina. ... FL PG Ben Eblen pledged to VCU. ...
