KELLY CHOOSES DEVILS, MORE PLEDGES

Duke's post-Olympic momentum continues. The Blue Devils, surging in the wake of Coach K's successful stint as Team USA's head coach, have regained footing on the recruiting trail after what had been for them a somewhat quiet stretch. On Thursday, big-time NC BF Ryan Kelly chose Duke over Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, North Carolina and Georgetown.

Kelly's decision was one of the more protracted and carefully considered among blue-chippers in the senior class, and with added strength he should become an outstanding face-up big man for Duke. His three-point shooting, mobility and intelligence all are ACC-ready, so now it's mostly a matter of gaining needed muscle.

More commitments:

GA BF Shawn Kemp Jr.: Committed to Alabama.

Comment: The son of the former NBA all-star, Kemp's name brought initial attention, but he didn't pick up steam early because his skills simply weren't very advanced. As time has progressed, however, he has at least developed the makings of post offense, and his body has filled out as well. He'll need time to blossom, but he does possess the physical tools necessary for the ultra-athletic SEC.

MI BF James Still: Committed to Providence.

Comment: The Friars should get early production from this previous top-50 talent, despite the fact that Still didn't have a great travel season. He's a slender big forward who at times appears to lack a court identity, explaining why his stock dipped over the past several months. That said, he's a good athlete and, with the attentive training he'll receive at the college level, has a chance to become a fine weapon for PC.

MA junior BF Nate Lubick: Committed to Georgetown.

Comment: Lubick isn't the greatest athlete, but the solidly-built big man in the junior class is very mobile and can play away from the basket. He'll likely fill several roles for the Hoyas, providing a steady worker inside as well as someone who can deliver the accurate passes necessary in John Thompson's offense.
