June 4, 2008

A handful of new decisions have transpired in recent days, including Washington gaining the services of C.J. Wilcox, a 6-5 WG/WF at Pleasant Grove (UT) High. Wilcox, led Utah's 5A division in scoring last season averaging 24 points per game, chose the Huskies over Utah, Miami and Florida State, among others.

Wilcox is noted for his three-point shooting. Along with 2008 signees Elston Turner, Isaiah Thomas and Scott Suggs, U-W should develop into one of the Pac-10's best outside shooting teams, a change from recent seasons.

TERPS LOSE ANOTHER

Maryland suffered more bad news, when 2007 BF recruit Gus Gilchrist opted to transfer after sitting out the 2007-08 season with the Terps. Gilchrist is a big-time talent who hasn't yet established himself at the college level, after signing with Virginia Tech and obtaining a release following the campus shootings last year, and now the move from College Park.

Gilchrist's exit followed the release given to Tyree Evans, a JC recruit with a criminal background who also will be not attending Maryland.

RAZORBACKS PICK UP POWELL

VA BF Marshawn Powell committed to Arkansas over a host of other high-major programs. Powell is a very tough insider who played well during the spring and has been of the tougher players in the Class of 2009 for the past two years.

Powell is a good athlete for the SEC and will give the Hogs a prime rebounder and enforcer on the interior.

DePaul and IL PG Cully Payne, who pledged to the Blue Demons as a rising freshman, have parted ways. ... The strange saga of Dwain Williams continues. The Providence transfer guard was all set for Long Beach State, but now he has obtained another release and will join Oregon State. He'll sit out next season and have two years of eligibility remaining, beginning in 2009-10. He averaged 11 points a game last season. ... Oklahoma State picked up a nice addition from AR PG Fred Gulley, a speedy athlete who played pretty well at the recent TOC. ... Class of 2008 unsigned WG Varez Ward chose Texas over Kansas State, Arkansas, Florida State, Marquette and others. He's a broad-shouldered scorer with legitimate Big 12-level speed. ...
