MEMPHIS STRIKES AGAIN; MORE PLEDGESPrepStars.com staff
Just when it appeared Memphis couldn’t do much better recruiting the Class of 2010, the Tigers added yet another stud in TN BF Tarik Black, who chose Josh Pastner’s program over Marquette and others. Black is a good athlete with a strong frame who is comfortable in the paint despite standing a relatively short 6-7. He’s powerful springy and the possessor of an effective short jumphook, so he contributes as a scorer, rebounder and all-around tough guy. He’ll certainly fit in well with Memphis, which will have three excellent scorers on the perimeter and needs someone to do the heavy lifting inside. MIZZOU GETS MITCHELLMissouri fans are in for a treat, when TX WF/BF Tony Mitchell makes his way to campus next season. The blue-chip forward blew up during the summer and now projects as a potential All-American for Mike Anderson’s fast-paced program. Mitchell previously had been a Kansas State pledge, and ultimately he’ll remain in the Big 12 but in a different location. The Tigers now boast a pair of big-time pledges: Mitchell and TX PG Phil Pressey. ELSEWHERE. …Indiana scored a pledge from Will Sheehey, a 6-5 WF at Weston (FL) Sagemont and son of former Virginia star Tom Sheehey. … Louisville added its first 2010 recruit (the Cardinals are working on a monstrous 2011 class) in Russell Smith, a 6-1 PG at South Kent (CT) Prep. He is likely to begin his career backing up Peyton Siva. … |
