HARRIS SET TO ANNOUNCE ON THURSDAY

On the face of it, it would appear odd that a player would announce just after the conclusion of the fall signing period. But that’s exactly what big-time NY BF Tobias Harris is doing when he announces his decision on Thursday.

The elite senior frontcourt player, one of he most versatile players in the class, is down to what still comprises a lengthy list of finalists: Syracuse, Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Maryland and West Virginia. He’ll sign on Wednesday (final day of the signing period) and then announce on Thursday, so technically he’s still a fall signee.

The situation naturally has been intense for each of the schools involved, and the furor heightened when, on Tuesday after visiting Georgia Tech for a couple days, Harris made an unexpected stopover in Knoxville, which he’d already visited officially.

In the meantime, NY BF Jayvaughn Pinkston — who had been expected to announce his choice on Wednesday — delayed his press conference and will announce in the spring. There has been rampant speculation about what that means, given that Pinkston and the Vols have been closely linked, but it’s entirely possible that the secretive Harris still will commit somewhere besides UT.
