As the spring rolls on, the number of commitments — made from both the senior and junior classes — continues to pour forth. Starting at Gonzaga, 6-2 WG/PG Gary Bell of Kent (WA) Kentridge gave the Bulldogs a very nice early pledge.

Bell is a smooth scorer who impressed us at the recent Boo Williams Invitational playing with Seattle Rotary Select. Here’s a look at what we wrote:

”We like the high-major vibe emitted by Bell, and deservedly that’s where he’s being recruited. He's a fine athlete whose most impressive quality is his overall alertness. He doesn’t have elite ball skills or eye-popping athleticism, but he isn’t terribly deficient in any specific area and gets the most out of all he has. He sees the whole floor with his passes, spots opportunities to drive, hits open jumpers (although a little flat) and finishes well using nice body control. He also plays solid defense and is a good helper because he anticipates the action very well.”

Beating the Pac-10 schools to the punch is a big score for the Zags.

TERPS GET A JUNIOR

Moving east, Maryland scored with NJ guard Sterling Gibbs. We saw Gibbs be up and down last summer, but he improved during his junior year and is a fine catch for Gary Williams’ program.

He had attracted widespread attention from Big East and ACC programs, and ultimately he felt most at home with Maryland and its coaching staff.

NV C Godwin Okonji signed with Loyola-Marymount. Okonji had a good season for Findlay Prep and should be a fine interior anchor for Loyola. … IL BF James Siakam is headed to Vanderbilt. He was expected to be a junior recruit (Class of 2011) but has enough credit hours to graduate this spring and suit up for the Commodores this fall. … In the wake of the crushing miss of Marquis Teague last week, Louisville added unsigned 2010 big man Gorgui Sy Dieng. The 6-10 C at Huntington (WV) Prep is a native of Senegal. …
