BIG EAST DOMINATES NEWS

Rob Harrington

September 1, 2010

Could it finally be happening for Rutgers? After a decade of teases and near-misses on the recruiting trail, the Scarlet Knights are riding a new wave of progress under first-year coach Mike Rice.

Rutgers this week added both NY/CT BF Kadeem Jack and NJ PG Myles Mack, two of the best senior prospects within the immediate vicinity. Both Jack and Mack are national top-100 talents, and they’ll join other touted commitments from the 2011 and 2012 classes.

Jack is a ferocious athlete who competes very hard and has improved a great deal over the past year. He was a Class of 2010 recruit who re-classified in part to draw more interest from high-major programs. Mack, meanwhile, has been a beloved figure for the Playaz travel team for years, and despite his diminutive frame he’s an effective scorer with loads of toughness.

RED STORM GET HARKLESS

Elsewhere in the Big East, St. John’s gained the nod from CT WF Maurice Harkless, the one-time UConn pledge who enjoyed a big summer and now is set to compete as one of the top players in the Northeast. He’s a huge pickup for Steve Lavin as he rebuilds at SJU.
