JORDAN BRAND TEAM ANNOUNCEDRob Harrington
While the McDonald’s All-American game announced its team last week, the Nike-based Jordan Brand has followed suit and has emerged as a major competitor to McDonald’s. Set to take place on April 17 in New York’s Madison Square Garden, the headliner will feature many of the same players who will play at McDonald’s. One thing we like about this particular game is that it’s 10 players per team, 20 overall, unlike the 12-man teams for McDonald’s. Thus, players will receive an opportunity for more playing time. Another advantage Nike enjoys is the absence of stringent/arbitrary rules about fifth-year players. In effect, the Jordan game had John Wall last year while McDonald’s did not, and this year Jordan will have Will Barton (No. 8 in PrepStars.com rankings) while McDonald’s will not. In all, 16 of the Jordan Game’s 20 players rank in the national top 21, including the entire top six! That leaves only four players outside that number, including NY/VA WG Doron Lamb (No. 27), MD/VA BF/WF Roscoe Smith (No. 33), CAN/NV PG/WG Cory Joseph (No. 42 and rising) and NJ WG Dion Waiters (No. 66).
