The New Year is here and, during our coverage over the past couple weeks, there are a handful commitments and other events to catch up on as we proceed into 2010. On the commitment front, there have been a handful of noteworthy moves to occur.

Starting at Miami, the Hurricanes landed North Hollywood (CA) Harvard-Westlake’s Eric Swoope, an undersized 6-5 senior BF who is averaging roughly 19 points and nine rebounds per game this season. Though unheralded nationally, Miami likes his overall utility and he projects as a solid role player for the Canes.

JOHNNIES GET A JUNIOR

St. John’s made a Class of 2011 pickup in 6-0 PG Davontay Grace of Brooklyn (NY) Jefferson. Grace is a good Northeastern talent and a city guard who will represent his hometown in college.

Though not a dynamic scorer, Grace is a solid driver and playmaker with a nice frame for college.

Maryland picked up a pledge from guard Pe’Shon Howard, a good student and strong driver who played pretty well last summer. … Staying with the Terps, wing Terrence Ross de-committed from Maryland and can sign anywhere he chooses in the spring. ..
