TRANSFER WIRE GETS HOT

There was major transfer news at some elite programs. North Carolina was involved in each move, the good news coming in the form of Alabama transfer center Justin Knox. The 6-9, 240-pound big man finished his junior season with the Crimson Tide in 2009-10 and, in an uncommon move for a junior, opted to transfer.

Adding to the intrigue was that he is on track to graduate from ‘Bama this summer, and if he does he’ll be eligible next season. He isn’t a big scorer but is a solid athlete and does possess the ability to plug UNC’s interior thinness.

That very lack of depth was caused by two transfers out of UNC: David and Travis Wear. The freshman twins recently announced their intention to leave the program, and they’re now headed to UCLA. At 6-9 and with solid frames, they’ll sit out the upcoming season and join the Bruins — with three seasons of eligibility — in 2010-11.

Neither twin is a great athlete or a power player, but they are tremendously savvy and skilled as jump shooters and passers.
