CARR, OTHERS MAKE NEWSRob Harrington
Seton Hall needed to make a statement in recruiting, and the Pirates certainly accomplished that by getting exciting Baltimore PG Aquille Carr. A junior who has become an internet sensation due to his ball-handling and passing wizardry, Carr is more than mere spectacle. He’s a voracious competitor who, despite standing under 5-7, has the explosive quickness and leaping ability to make a few plays inside, though clearly his size is an issue against elite shotblockers. Nevertheless, he’s a major talent and gives the Pirates some all-important buzz. Meanwhile, another signature recruit, Class of 2011 Pittsburgh signee Khem Birch, has pledged himself to UNLV. The Panthers were stunned that the freshman transferred out so soon during his freshman season (playing only 10 games), and now after sitting out the hope is that he’ll improve his face-up skills and be able to contribute at his preferred position of big forward, rather than at center. Another transfer, Kentucky wing Stacey Poole, is headed to Georgia Tech. The Florida native hadn’t made much impact in two seasons in Lexington on UK’s deep bench, but he should be able to help boost the roster for Brian Gregory’s rebuilding program. |
